Gigging a grand piano is a bit beyond the average bar musician.ĭo you still haul your B3s to gigs, Dave? I ask because I never played a clonewheel action that was as good as the real deal. But the CP5 still has the best action I have ever played. 71 lbs is a lot, especially when you put it in a 25 lbs case. But I still want a sub woofer for the PA first. I definitely won't get any more work because the action is better. Now I am trying to figure out how the hell to justify spending $5000 on a piano when my annual gig revenue is less than half that.
That was the Yamaha GHS, same as what the MOXF8 ships with today. When I bought my current daily driver in 2006, it had the best action I had ever played in a price range I could afford. I never played a great stage piano until I tried the Yamaha CP-5 last year. Many some of them have never played great? The idea of only bringing a laptop and pedals to hit the road to plug in to any controller. But I'm doing more out of town gigs where backline co's are hit or miss. I still keep thinking about making the BIG change to virtual. My next board will not be a top end workstation. For the gigging performer not needing musical production features, these are great value options. There's a number of value priced boards out now that werent available when I got my XF. I use A/T on exactly one song I've performed in the last 4 yrs, I'd survive without it. If MOXF was out when I bought the XF 4 yrs ago, I would have bought the MOXF instead, it meets my needs. sonically they are nearly equivalent, and you can expand via flash memory board same as XF for third party sample libraries. If you want to perform in Voice or Perf mode, and don't need 8 zone sequencing or aftertouch, its a no brainer. it depends on what you need to decide if you need the adds in the XF vs MOXF.
